Chief Economist – Regulation & Enforcement

The Commission's purpose is to achieve the best possible outcomes in competitive and regulated markets for the long-term benefit of New Zealanders.

The Commission is an independent quasi-judicial body that enforces New Zealand’s competition, fair trading and consumer credit contract laws, and carries out regulatory responsibilities in the electricity, gas, telecommunications, dairy and airport industries.

Two significant leadership opportunities have arisen at the Commission as part of a programme of change. The Chief Economist, Enforcement and Chief Economist, Regulation are pivotal roles in the new organisation.

Chief Economist – Regulation

This role will manage a team of economists that form part of a multi-disciplinary group providing economic analysis and advice. The successful applicant will have experience managing a team and be a specialist in the field of regulatory economics.

Your knowledge and experience will also include:

* A postgraduate qualification in economics
* Demonstrated project management experience
* Business management and strategy experience
* Demonstrated success in presenting information to a non economist audience
* Strong writing skills.

Chief Economist – Enforcement

This role will also manage a team of economists that form part of a multi disciplinary group with a focus on Competition issues. This team of economists will work as part of the Enforcement Branch and apply economic theory to a range of projects. Your previous experience as a manager working in the field of Competition economics will be the key to your success in this role.

Your knowledge and experience will also include:

* A post graduate qualification in economics
* Demonstrated project management experience
* Business Management and strategy experience
* Demonstrated success in presenting information to a non economist audience
* Strong writing skills.
